White Likes The Idea Of Franklin vs. Ortiz

Tito Ortiz

UFC president likes the idea of Ortiz vs. Franklin

While a light heavyweight bout between UFC veterans and former champions Tito Ortiz and Rich Franklin is far from coming to fruition, the match up is apparently a definite possibility.

During a UStream broadcast on Friday, UFC president Dana White stated that the idea of the fight was one he rather liked, stating, “We do like the idea of Tito vs. Rich Franklin.”

Franklin was originally supposed to meet Antonio Rogerio Nogueira earlier this summer, but an injury to the Brazilian forced the cancellation of this bout. Apparently, now it seems that the match up may be scrapped altogether.

He is still looking to come back from a decision loss to Forrest Griffin at UFC 126.

Meanwhile, Ortiz is in search of redemption of his own after losing via technical knockout to Rashad Evans at UFC 133, the same event Franklin was expected to meet Nogueira. Before that loss, the former champ revived his career with a submission win against Ryan Bader at UFC 132.
