Francis Lawrence to Direct Marco Polo Film

1267730144_marco_polo.jpgI Am Legend director Francis Lawrence has agreed to direct a movie based on the adventures of Marco Polo MTV reports. Adam Cooper and Bill Collage (writers of Accepted and New York Minute) wrote the screenplay, saying it’s an epic/fantasy and not a drama.

A little history behind the legend: Marco Polo was captured in Genoa and held prisoner, traveled across Asia and was the first European to meet the Kublai Khan. But if you want an awesome epic based on an explorer, they should have focused their efforts on Ferdinand Magellan who survived a crew mutiny, sailed around the coast of South America and made it as far as the Philippines where he was killed by poisonous arrow during a battle. But I guess Marco Polo sounds cool too.
