The town of Southhampton in Long Island, NY will host Escape to New York on the Shinnecock Indian Reservation, and this is one of the most West Coast looking festivals the East Coast has to offer. Says the website: “Escape to New York is a special event unlike anything the east coast has experienced before with installations and performance art, experimental theatre, high-end glamourous camping “Glamping,” the world’s biggest brunch at a live music festival, and amazing culinary delights.” And there’s a manifesto to make sure you get what it’s all about. Patti Smith, Best Coast, Chairlift, The Vaccines, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, The Psychedelic Furs and Of Montreal are the big names at this event, but there is also an acoustic stage and several dance areas so you can get your groove on. There will also be all kinds of art installatons, including an Improve Everywhere MP3 Experiment, gigantic pillow and bubble fights and a stuffed animal pit.
