Full Release: Music

Ozzy Osbourne Scream

If you’ve been paying any attention to the site over the last week, you’ll know that the release we’re psyched about most is Ozzy Osbourne’s Scream (and you can still win a signed Ozzy guitar here) – but that doesn’t mean that it’s a light week for music. No, the summer jams roll on this week with hits from tons of top artists – here’s our picks for the week.

Ozzy Osbourne - Scream – Today’s youth, sadly, primarily know Ozzy as the mush-mouthed patriarch from his reality TV series. It’s been almost five years since Black Rain, his last album, and the time is ripe for the former Black Sabbath frontman to show these kids that he’s still got it. Scream features 11 tracks of driving metal, with the absence of longtime Ozzy guitarist Zakk Wylde. Watch the video for TKTK.

DanzigDeth Red Sabaoth – Another metal / punk icon drops a new album this week – former Misfits frontman Glenn Danzig has been quiet since 2004, and expectations are high for this slab, which features new bassist Steve Zing and new drummer Johnny Kelly. Glenn promises a big, thick analog sound for the album. Watch the video for TKTK.

EminemRecovery – Em was supposed to drop this one after Relapse last year, but decided to sit on it and let it ripen a little bit. Advance buzz has been extremely positive, with attention paid to the more serious emotional content of the featured tracks, as well as the total absence of skits on the record. Watch the video for “Not Afraid.”

ChamillionaireVenom – The multiplatinum rapper’s third album has been in development for over a year, having gone through a number of changes in its road to the shelves. You can expect irresistable beats and catchy rhymes, as well as guest spots from Paul Wall, Twista and Slim Thug.

The RootsHow I Got Over – Ninth studio album from one of the solidest hip-hop outfits in the game, featuring 14 tracks with guests like John Legend, Blu and Peedi Peedi. Expect lyrical content critical of both the Bush and Obama presidencies, as well as a rumored Joanna Newsom sample.

UffieSex Dreams And Denim Jeans – You thought Ke$ha was annoying? Franco-American electro rapper Uffie might just make you kill yourself if you’re not seduced by her childish rapping and minimal beats. This album apparently took nearly five years to make, which is kind of shocking. Includes guest appearances by Pharrell Williams and a dude from The Rapture. Watch the video for “Pop The Glock.”
