Tony Scott Did NOT Have Cancer, Says Wife

Despite earlier reports that famed director Tony Scott had inoperable brain cancer when he jumped to his death on Sunday, his wife says that’s nothing more than a rumor, reports TMZ.

The revelation, if true, reopens the short-lived speculation over why the Top Gun director committed suicide on Sunday. When it came out he supposedly had cancer, the suicide appeared to be a self-inflicted mercy killing.

Is this new report semantics? Did he have another terminal illness that wasn’t cancer? TMZ says no.

The Daily Mail ran this picture of Scott looking terrible while out to dinner in July. It played into to the story that the director was sick:

But TMZ says Scott “did not have any other severe medical issues.”

Deadline.com also reports Scott did not have cancer and points out that ABC is making a name for itself as a source of erroneous news:

This is the second time in a month that ABC News has erroneously reported on a sensitive news story. During the Aurora movie theater shooting tragedy, ABC News claimed the gunman was a Tea Party member which was not true.
