Anti-Muslim Filmmaker Mark Basseley Youssef Gets Jail

Mark Basseley Youssef Nakoula Basseley Nakoula

The man behind the anti-Muslim film Innocence of Muslims, which sparked outrage and violent protests in the Middle East and at one point was blamed for the deadly attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, is headed to prison for a probation violation that has nothing do with the movie.

Mark Basseley Youssef, aka Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, 55, was sentenced in Los Angeles Wednesday to one year in prison.

Youssef was on probation tied to his partially-served sentence on a bank fraud conviction. Prosecutors said he violated probation by falsifying his identity — specifically, using a fake California driver’s license.

He reportedly admitted to four of eight total alleged probation violations.

His previous conviction in the bank fraud case stemmed from his use of some dozen aliases and 60 bank accounts in a check fraud scam.
