A “violent” relationship between teen lovers ended tragically Wednesday night, December 12, with an apparent murder-suicide in Immokalee, Florida.
Coby Martinez Deleon, 18, and Natalia Trejo, 17, were found dead after a report of a gunshot.
Here’s what you should know.
1. They Were Both Shot Dead
Sheriff’s officers rushed to 205 N. 6th Street in Immokalee, Florida, around 11 p.m. after a report of a possible gunshot. They found a gruesome scene, reports NBC 2:
Deputies say the bodies were in a small room off a rear bedroom of the house. They say Trejo was curled up in a fetal position with a gunshot wound to the right side of her head. Deleon was nearby. He also had a head wound, according to depties, and was slumped against a wall with a black handgun on the floor between his legs.
2. They’d Been Together Since Late 2011
Coby’s Facebook page lists the couple as being together since December 15, 2011. They’ve been friends on the social network since October 2011.
3. They Lived with His Grandmother
The two had both lived here at 205 North 6th Street in Immokalee, where both bodies were found inside the house. It’s located on the same block as the local high school baseball field.
4. It Was a “Violent” Relationship
A cousin of Trejo, who described a violent relationship, was was quoted by NBC2:
“This guy, he changed her, you know what I mean? Ever since she met him, things started changing. She wasn’t the same girl. I haven’t seen her… it’s been almost a year since I’ve seen her,” said cousin Alex Soto.
5. He Was “Into the Army”
A man who “attended an alternative learning middle school” with Deleon told the News Press that Coby was a good kid and the incident is shocking:
“He was a good kid, just chill,” [Victor] Nua said. “He was into the Army and he was a good student.”
According to his Facebook page, Deleon was a fan of the military videogame Call of Duty.
6. Deleon Listed the Couple as “Married” on Facebook
Coby’s Facebook page also lists him as a fan of rapper Eminem. He added that he “love to chill with nat,” and “Fuck every stupid slut i got me a wife :)”
7. Their High School Held a Pep Rally Today
From the school website’s homepage, as of 2:30 p.m. EST Thursday, December 13:
Trejo and Deleon both attended Immokalee High School, which is walking distance to the scene of the crime. Today, as the high school was providing grief counseling to shocked students, it was also holding a pep rally for the football team, the Indians, which will play in the state championship Friday in Orlando. The same sheriff’s office that is investigating the murder landed a helicopter at the pep rally to present the team with a game ball.
8. Trejo Was a Cheerleader Last Year
Allegedly Trejo had to quit the school’s cheerleading squad last year due to poor grades, according to WINK News. Her coach, Tracey Bowen, said that she still thought of Trejo as a member of the team.
The cheerleaders will establish a scholarship in her honor.
Today, the cheerleading squad, along with the rest of the school, was forced to conduct a pep rally while mourning their former teammate.
