13 Hurt in Corner Shooting Overnight in Washington D.C.

Tyler House Apartments

The shooting happened at the Tyler House Apartments in Washington D.C.

Police say that 13 people have been injured, one seriously, in a corner shooting at 2:10 a.m. Monday in Washington D.C., reports The Washington Post. The youngest of the victims is just 17 years old.

Those wounded in the shooting, which took place on North Capitol Street at New York Avenue in front of Tyler House Apartments, were mostly hit in the arms and legs, police Chief Cathy Lanier said. The seriously injured person was shot in the back, but the injury isn’t life-threatening. Investigators interviewed witnesses and the wounded, who were scattered around in three hospitals on Monday, but the shooter remains at large.

Jonique Douglas, 21, was just leaving the Fur Nightclub around the corner when the shooting started.

“Everybody was screaming,” Douglas said. “They shooting like directly at us,” she said, adding that she and others ran to Tyler House’s locked door to get to safety. “It coulda been a bloody mess.”

A surveillance video shows two cars speeding to the corner and shooting at pedestrians as they try to take cover.

The apartment building where the shooting occurred sits in a crime plagued area and is known for its heavy gun violence.
