Farewell, towering spike of ice

A giant, three-storey icicle clinging to the side of an apartment building in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, has been given a death sentence by the local fire department.

Considered a safety risk, the Saskatoon fire department has said the massive icicle, which has its own Twitter account, must be removed within 24 hours.

If that doesn’t happen, fire crews will do it themselves and bill the apartment building’s owner.

A popular – if new – local attraction, residents have suggested methods for removing it, including flame-throwers, axes, hammers and steam.

The icicle itself seems resigned to its fate.
