5-Year-Old Girl’s Ears Bitten Off by Dogs

Maryland Dog attack

A 5-year-old girl had her ears bitten off when she was viciously attacked by two dogs in Charles County, Maryland. The victim, Savanna, also suffered from bites on her neck and chest. She was found naked in the backyard, according to SoMdNews.

The Charles County Sheriff’s office received a call around 6 p.m. on Wednesday of a dog attack, with law enforcement arriving at the scene to a residence in the town of Waldorf. The police found Savanna in critical condition with bite marks all over her body and her clothes ripped off. The girl was found unconscious and curled in the fetal position by her mother’s boyfriend, who was in charge of watching her at the time.

The girl was flown by helicopter to the Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, D.C., where her injuries were treated. Family members said the girl is expected to make a full recovery.

English Bulldog _ Presa Canario

Sheriff’s spokeswoman Diane Richardson said Savanna was attacked by two out three dogs who were in the area, apparently belonging to the neighbor — an English bulldog and a Presa Canario. The two offending dogs have been euthanized, though it’s unknown if both participated in the attack. A third dog, who was in a fenced-in kennel area of the yard and couldn’t have participated in the attack, remains alive.

The investigation is ongoing. “We have a lot of questions that still need to be answered. I’m not sure if we will ever get a full understanding as to what happened,” Richardson said.
