CNN’s Wolf Blitzer Asks Athiest Tornado Survivor if She ‘Thanks the Lord’

CNN reporter Wolf Blitzer found himself in a bit of an awkward situation on live television when he asked an atheist Moore tornado survivor on Tuesday if she “thanked the lord” for making a split second decision that may have saved her life.

A massive EF-5 tornado ripped through Moore, Oklahoma on Monday, destroying anything in its path. Blitzer interviewed one survivor Rebecca Vitsmun who said her quick decision to leave her house during the monster storm saved her life. The bathtub she was taking cover in was later found among her flattened house, filled with rubble. Blitzer then asked the woman if she “thanked the lord.” However, to the reporters surprise, the tornado survivor responded that she is an atheist.

“I’m actually an atheist,” Vitsmun said. “We are here, and you know, I don’t blame anybody for thanking the lord.”

The clip made its rounds on the internet and produced commenters who accused Blitzer of working for “The 700 Club,” to others who hailed Vitsmun as a hero. All in all, both Blitzer and Vitsmun responded to the situation respectfully and that should be commended in itself.
