Officials have confirmed that 16-year-old Ye Mengyuan — a Chinese student who lost her life after the Asiana plane crash — was killed h by a fire truck responding to the emergency.

A San Mateo coroner ruled that Mengyuan survived the crash-landing only to be killed accidentally on the runway by “at least one” emergency vehicle rushing to extinguish the blazing Boeing 777. Gordon Shy, a public information officer for the San Francisco Police Department, reported that the girl was close to the aircraft’s left wing and was covered in “fire retardant foam” when the fire truck “went over her.” She ultimately died of multiple blunt injuries.

When the National Transportation Safety Board learned that Ye might have been struck, the drivers of the emergency vehicles were tested for drugs and alcohol.  All results were negative.

Ye Mengyuan was one of the three fatalities to incur due to the plane tragedy. Her middle school classmate, 16-year-old Wan Linja, died in the crash and was found a mile away from the fiery wreckage. The other victim killed, 15-year-old Liu Yipeng, died at the hospital after suffering severe injuries.
