On the morning of August 30, 2013, a 6-year-old boy shot his 4-year-old sister with a shotgun.

According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, the shooting took place in the town of Alma, WI.The LaCrosseTribune.com reported that the 6-year-old boy discovered the loaded weapon at home and proceeded to point it at his sister. When the boy fired the gun, his sister was shot. At the time of the shooting, the children were not being watched, although it’s known that their father was presently at home.

After the 4-year-old girl was transported to the Black River Memorial Hospital, medical staff contacted the police around 9:30 a.m.

The girl is currently being treated at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center for “non-life-threatening injuries.”

Her current condition still isn’t available at this time.

The shooting is still under investigation. The Jackson County Sheriff’s Department stated that criminal charges are possible after the case comes under review by the district attorney’s office. The names of the 6-year-old boy and his 4-year-old sister are not being released at this time.
