At Least 1 Dead in Houston School Stabbing: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know

Emergency responders were called to Spring High School in suburban Houston this morning after reports of a horrific stabbing, reports KHOU.

A KAKE reporter on the scene has said that there were reports of several fights at the school already this year. This attack happened just after 7 a.m.

Here’s what you need to know…


1. One Person Has Been Killed

One person is reported to be dead by KHOU. One 16-year-old boy was airlifted from the scene, it’s not known if he is the deceased.


2. The Stabbing May Be Gang-Related

The mother of a 16-year-old child speaking to KTRK-TV, said they she heard the attack was “gang-related.” A grandmother of two children at the school told Click2Houston:

He said that a big fight broke out. And that’s all he knows. A big fight broke out and several people got stabbed and cut.


3. Two People Were Arrested

KAKE reports that two people were seen in handcuffs at the school, it’s not known if they are suspects.

Reports are varying as to how many people in total are injured with some saying that as many as five were hurt in the attack. Courtney Gilmore, a reporter with Click2Houston tweeted that all of the parents of the victims have been informed.


5. Worried Parents Waited at the School to Pick Up Their Kids

KHOU reports that students will be released 10 a.m. local time.

One parent, identified only as Jan, told KHOU:

I’m just trying to make sure that my child is OK, I’ve actually texted and I’ve actually called, they are receiving phone calls. They are in their first-period class and everything is calm.

It’s unbelievable, but it seems like it’s a very controlled situation and I’m actually going to go to work. There is nothing I can do out here, I just wanted to make sure they are safe.

Another parent told Click2Houston:

I have two daughters here….My daughter had text me to let me know that the stabbing is going on. But I have yet to hear or get texts from anybody at Spring letting me know that this event took place.
