BREAKING: Gunman Has Taken Hostages at Fresno Medical Center, Reports

A gunman is reported to have taken hostages at a Fresno medical center called the Family Care Providers Medical Group (shown above), reports The Fresno Bee.

Here’s what we know so far:


1. The Call Went Out For a Negotiator at Around Noon

A negotiator was called for by Fresno police at around noon local time, when hostages were reported inside the Family Care Providers Medical Group building in central Fresno. The building is located on the southeast corner of Fresno Street and Lamona Avenue, reports ABC Fresno.


2. There Are People Hiding in the Building

Reports from the ground say that people are hiding throughout the building.


3. One Person Claims She Say a Gunman

One witness says she saw a man with a black handgun in the building.


4. A Massive Police Operation is Underway

Streets around the building have been blocked off. The Fresno Bee says:

Fresno Street is blocked off at Floradora Avenue, which runs along the south side of San Joaquin Memorial, and at Olive Avenue on the south side.


5. A Nearby School Was Not Locked Down, Despite Reports

A nearby school, San Joaquin Memorial, was not placed lockdown, according to principal Edward Borges, mainly because many students had already gone home for the day. The Fresno Bee reports that many of the students who were still on campus were ordered into the school’s gymnasium.
