Karen Quick, a Red Cross volunteer from Thousand Oaks, Calif., collects clothing dropped in an Office Max parking lot in Gulfport, Miss., Sept. 18, 2005. The clothing will be taken to local shelters and designated donation centers. Clothes just began showing up in the parking lot according to Quick. This was here first stop here to find clothes for the thousands of displaced people in the Gulfport area. Quick, a registered nurse at Los Robles Hospital in Thousand Oaks said she saw what was happening on TV in California and decided she needed to go to the Gulf Coast and help. She told her family "I just have to go." It's been a surreal experience for Quick. One of the images she saw when she first arrived in Gulfport was an antique rocking chair in the water off the beach. "The chair was just rocking in the waves," Quick said. Quick leaves Gulfport in two days to return home to California.
