According to media blogger Jim Romenesko, “tipsters” have said that Patch.com’s new owners have taken drastic action with the neighborhood news site by laying of two-thirds of their editorial workforce. The layoffs were made via conference call, and if you want to hear what hundreds of people sound like when they learn they’re now unemployed, here you are:

The company’s new owners, Hale Global, only took control of Patch on January 15. Hale is known as a “turnaround specialist.” AOL sold controlling interest to them, though America Online is still a “partner” in Patch.
