Jaacob Van Winkle, 31, was named during a police press conference in Canon City, Colorado as the main suspect in the murder of a 35-year-old woman and two of her children, a girl, 9, and a boy, 5, reports The Pueblo Chieftain.
The names of the victims have not been released. Canon City is located just south west of Colorado Springs.

Another person in the home, a teenage girl, survived the incident. She has been described by cops as a victim of rape. Police responded to the home on the 1100 block of Phay Avenue in Canon City at 8 p.m. local time on March 9. Cops were responding to a call of sexual assault, when they arrived at the residence they discovered the three dead bodies. The teenage girl called 911.
2. Van Winkle is a Registered Sex Offender
He is a convicted sex offender. According to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, he is 6-foot-4, weights 190 pounds, with brown eyes. He has tattoos covering his hands, legs and shoulders. At the time his profile was posed on the CBI website, he was listed as “incarcerated.”
According to WBIW.com, he was released from prison in 2008 after doing time on charges of child molestation.
3. Van Winkle Was Implicated in the Bizarre Death of His Room Mate in 2011
In 2011, when Van Winkle was living in Indiana, his room mate Michael Eaton, 50, was found dead in their home, reports The Indy Channel. Eaton had been declared missing first by his sister and was found crudely buried under blankets and clothing in his home in Whiteland, Indiana, a few days later. Cops began to investigate and began a search for Eaton’s room mate, Van Winkle. Eventually he was found, camped out in the woods, after cops tracked down Van Winkle’s parents who told them where he was. He was arrested on a parole violation and questioned. Van Winkle told cops that he had discovered the body and didn’t know what to do. It was later determined that Eaton had died of natural causes.
4. Van Winkle Was ‘Friends’ With the Woman He Killed
He was living at the home in Canon City where this tragedy occurred. It’s been reported that he was a friend of the 35-year-old woman who died.
5. Van Winkle Didn’t Resist Arrest
He is being held without bail on charges of 1st degree murder, kidnapping and other charges. Van Winkle surrendered to cops at the home with incident, reports The Denver Channel.
