Kevin Canevari: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know

Kevin Canevari, 22, a senior at Mercer College, stole the headlines from his more illustrious team mates by dancing the Nae Nae during his team’s win over Duke. The underdog Mercer defeated Duke 78-71 in Raleigh, North Carolina, on March 21.

This is what you need to know about Canevari:


1. Aside From the Dance, He Got an Assist in the Duke Game

Canevari has averaged 9.2 minutes on the court per game this season. His ESPN stats page indicates that he averages 1.6 points per game. In the Duke game, his contribution amounted to one assist.


2. Canevari Was Also a Soccer Star in High School

He hails from Long Island and but graduated high school at Lake Norman in North Carolina. In his junior and senior years he was the team’s MVP. In 2010, the team won the North Carolina state championship. During his time at Lake Norman, he was also a soccer star.

3. Brett Favre is His Hero

He has three older sisters, one of whom, Keri, is a soccer player at the College of Charleston. His parents are named Kevin and Aggie. According to his Mercer profile, his favored pre-game meal is a ham and cheese sandwich and his sporting hero is Brett Favre. On his Facebook page he says he’s a Yankees fan.


4. Canevari is Single, Ladies

According to his Facebook page, he’s single. But we expect when the world sees his dance moves, he’ll get snapped up by some lucky lady.

5. He’s Has a Brain For Business

Before deciding on Mercer, Canevari was recruited by UNC-Asheville and Elon. He’s a business major at Mercer.
