Endia Martin was just 14 when she was shot dead while walking home from school in Chicago on Monday April 28, reports The Sun-Times. She was allegedly shot by a love rival. The suspect in the shooting is also just 14 and is in custody.

Here’s what you need to know about this tragedy:


1. The Feud is Reported to Have Become on Facebook

Endia and the suspect were understood to have been fighting over a boy via Facebook, according to CBS Chicago. The suspect has been charged as a juvenile over the shooting. A relative of the murder suspect is also in custody facing charges of supplying the weapon used in the attack.


2. Her Stepfather Said She Wanted to Join the Navy

According to her stepfather, Kent Kennedy, Endia Martin dreamed of visiting Paris and Rome. Upon graduation from high school, she wanted to enlist in the Navy but she also wanted to attend university. He said:

She wanted to do some traveling. I told her the Navy was a perfect fit. She always was talking about how she wanted to go to Paris and places like Italy. And she loved to get dressed up and change her hair all different ways. And she had these footwork dance contests on the block or at her school.

3. Martin Was With a Large Group When She Was Shot

The shooting happened at the 900 block of West Garfield Boulevard, according Chicago police, reports ABC Chicago. There was a group of teenagers milling about when the suspect took out a gun and shot Endia.


4. Her Parents Were Worried About Her Safety

Endia had just transferred to Tilden High from Vocational High School because her mother and stepfather were worried about the commute, according to The Sun-Times report.
