Didier Deschamps’ French team are doing battle with Stephen Keshi’s Nigeria in the Brazilian capital Brasilia today at noon in the Estadio Nacional. After their outstanding showing in the group stages, France is the favorite. But this World Cup has been so unpredictable. Who knows?

3. The Bookies Think a Tie Is Unlikely

Though not quite as unlikely as a Nigeria victory. The best odds out there are 19/5 from Bet 365. Some places might know something we don’t, Sporting Bet is going as low as 16/5 for a tie. If you like the look of a tie, there’s also the concept of “Nigeria to Qualify” to consider. That doesn’t mean a Nigeria win, but more likely going to extra time and/or penalties. You could get odds of 4/1 on that from Bet 365.


4. A French Player Will Score First

That’s if the the bookies are to be believed. France’s top striker, Karim Benzema, is the favorite to score first with odds of 4/1 from Ladbrokes the best you’re going to get. It’s unclear if Benzema, a Muslim, will be observing the holy month of Ramadan during the World Cup. The second favorite to score first is Olivier Giroud at 5/1 with Bet Victor. The favorite Nigerian to score first is Ahmed Musa, the best odds you can get on him is 13/1 at Bet Victor.


5. It Might Be a 2-0 Win For France

2-0 to France is the favorite scoreline, the best odds going on that are is the 6/1 from Tote Sport. A low scoring affair is expected with scores such as 1-0 and 2-1 also in the offing. A 1-0 victory for Nigeria is as high out as 22/1 with Paddy Power.
