The Ottawa Sun reports that Philadelphia Flyers captain Claude Giroux was arrested in the Canadian capital for an “incident” involving a male cop.
Here’s what you need to know:
1. Giroux’s Accused of Grabbing a Male Cop’s Ass
According to Canadian media reports, Giroux grabbed the ass of a male cop. The Ottawa Sun says “alcohol is believed to have been involved.” The incident happened at a bar in the Byward Market area of the city. CBS Philadelphia reports the Flyers have not yet commented on the incident.

Sources say Giroux spent the night in a jail cell, but there’s been no official statement from the Canadian police. Cops say they can’t comment unless charges are brought — and no charges are expected, reports The Sun News Network.

4. Giroux Was Snubbed by Canada’s 2014 Olympic Team
During the 2013/14 season, Giroux scored 28 goals in 82 games for the Flyers. But the season’s most memorable moment came when he was the biggest name left off the Canadian Olympic roster.
Giroux played for Canada’s gold-medal-winning team in 2010 at the Vancouver Olympics.
Giroux is a native of Hearst, Canada. Hearst is known as the “Moose Capital” of Canada.
5. Giroux’s Just Lost One of His Teammates
He was last in the media on Friday, June 27, when he was asked about the trade of his teammate, Scott Hartnell. Giroux told reporters, “He was the worst teammate.” After that joke, Giroux got serious:
I got in six years ago and he took me under his wing right away and made sure the young guys were kind of ready for the league. He is going to be hard on you, but later on you will be happy about it. He has been great for me personally and a lot of young players.
Hartnell was traded to the Columbus Blue Jackets last week.
