FINAL SCORE: France 0 Germany 1

It wasn’t the classic we all hoped for but German players and fans won’t care. Jogi Low’s Germany team are through to yet another World Cup semifinal where they’ll player the winner of Brazil vs. Colombia on July 8 in Belo Horizonte. Germany scored early and maintained control for most of the game. Despite the best efforts of Karim Benzema and Matthieu Valbuena, Manuel Neuer in the Germany goal once again proved impossible to beat. The honest truth is that France didn’t do enough and therefore they are going home.

Mats Hummels Gave Germany the Lead After 12 Minutes

Hummels headed in a beautiful Toni Kroos free kick from the left-wing. Hugo Lloris had no chance after the ball flew into the top of his net. Moments earlier, France could have taken the lead through Benzema but the Germans were able to clear. And here it is in glorious Gif form:

Neuer Pulled of ANOTHER Amazing Save

After Valbuena stole into the box on the right wing, the ball sat up nicely for a shot. The winger tried to put it in the far corner but Manuel Neuer pulled off a sensational one handed save. The goalie was able to get enough on the ball so that the rebound that came to Benzema didn’t sit up well for the striker and Hummels was able to clear. The resulting corner was headed over by Matuidi.

Benzema Missed a Glorious Change in Injury Time

With the game looking beyond the French, Karim Benzema and his team mates finally put Germany under real pressure on 92 minutes. The Real Madrid striker was able to get in one-on-one with Neuer on the left side of the goal. Benzema went for power but Neuer stood tall and punched the ball away to safety. It was a disappointing finish from France who really didn’t put Germany under prolonged pressure late in the game.
