North Carolina basketball coach and Michael Jordan mentor Dean Smith has died at age 83. He was known for his civil rights activism prior to leading the Tar Heels in 879 winning games and two National Championships.
Smith died surrounded by family and friends in his Chapel Hill, North Carolina home. He had been suffering from dementia.
