A high school student in Washington state put on a fake suicide vest to declare to a girl that he was “the bomb.” The student, 18-year-old Ibrahim Ahmad, got the girl to agree to go with him to prom but he also got suspended to his troubles.

1. He Said He Did it Because He’s ‘Middle Easter’ & Thought it Was ‘Funny & Clever’

The Columbian in La Center, Washington, reports that the vest was a paintball vest and was equipped with paper tubes. The sign that accompanied the vest read “I kno it’s A little Late, But I’m kinda…THE BOMB! Rilea, Will U Be My Date To Prom?” Speaking to the Columbian, Ahmad said “I’m Middle Eastern, and I thought the bomb was kind of funny and clever. I wasn’t wearing the vest for more than, like, 20 seconds. I asked her, took a picture, took it off, and then the school got upset.”


2. He Was Suspended Because the School’s Superintendent Wants ‘All My Kids to Feel Safe’

For his actions, Ahmad was suspended from school meaning that he well miss the prom. Speaking to the Columbian, school Superintendent Mark Mansell said “I want all my kids to feel safe and supported…Given the way the world is today and school safety, even if one parent or one student was upset about this, it causes issues.”


3. His Prom Date Still Says She’s Single on Facebook

The girl, Rilea Wolfe, accepted Ahmad’s proposal (to go to prom) but the two will likely go to dinner on the big night, reports the Oregonian. On her Facebook page she says a native of La Center, Washington, and is single.


4. Ahmad Is Star Football Player at La Center

According to Hudl, Ibrahim Ahmad plays as a DE for the La Center High School football team. In 2014, the team were awarded the sportsmanship award by the league.


5. This Is Just the Latest Bomb Related Incident at an American School

This incident gives a new spin on the bomb pranks that are rife throughout American schools at the moment. Most recently, in Alabama, where two schools had to be evacuated on April 7 due to a “prank.” Back in 2007, in Westchester County, New York, 19 students faced felony charges for planting fake bombs throughout their school, reports the New York Times.
