A female student at the University of Arkansas has been accused of falsely reporting a sexual assault on campus. That student, 20-year-old Lindsey Sweetin, had reported that she was attacked in a parking garage at the school in February.

Here’s what you need to know:


1. She Said a Man Lured Her by Saying He Needed to Help His Sick Dog

KHBS reports that in February, Sweetin went to police and said that a man had approached her and asked for a ride. She said he told her that he needed to help his sick dog. After that, Sweetin said he touched her under clothes. KFSM reported that the University of Arkansas police, the Students Affairs Office and the Washington County Prosecutor’s Office were all investigating the incident.


2. She Could Be Fined $200,000

Sweetin was booked into Washington County jail on the morning of April 17 and released soon after. She will be in court on May 18. The maximum penalty in the state of Arkansas for filing a false police report is no more than 1 year in prison and a maximum fine of $200,000.


3. She’s Come Under Criticism From the Rape Crisis Center

Back in March 2015, KFSM reported that Sweetin admitted to police, two days after filing her report, that she had made up the story. Anne Shelley of the Northwest Arkansas Women’s Rape Crisis Center said at the time “What that does is create a climate where people who have been sexually assaulted can become even more afraid of coming forward.”


4. She’s Dating a Fellow University of Arkansas Student

According to her Facebook page, Sweetin is a native of Little Rock, Arkansas. She’s in a sorority at the school. She says on her page that since August 2014, she’s been in a relationship with a fellow University of Arkansas student, Joey Viviano. Back in 2012, she posted pictures of herself standing over a dead buck she had killed.

In May 2014, a student at the University of Arkansas, Julia Garcia, was accused of filing a false police report about a sexual assault on campus. KFSM reported that she too claimed to have been assaulted in the same parking garage as Sweetin. Garcia’s report came just after the University of Arkansas’ Sexual Assault Awareness Month. An alert for Garcia’s assault that was sent out to students described the suspect read “male, 6’0″ black stocking cap, dark shirt and dark pants.”
