U.S. Senator Ted Cruz, one of 16 Republicans running for president, is 44 years old. Cruz was born Rafael Edward Cruz on December 22, 1970, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
His mother, Eleanor Elizabeth Darragh Wilson, was born in Delaware. His father, Rafael Bienvenido Cruz, was born in Cuba, and moved to the United States in 1957. He became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 2005.
Cruz is married to Heidi Nelson Cruz, 42, and has two young daughters, Caroline and Catherine.
