Police radio transmissions provide some new details of what led up to the police shooting of an unarmed and naked black teen Monday morning in Texas.

David Joseph, a 17-year-old Austin resident, was fatally shot by Officer Geoffrey Freeman at about 10:30 a.m. after Freeman was called to an apartment complex for a “disturbance.”

The shooting happened about 30 minutes after the initial call. You can listen to the audio below courtesy of Broadcastify.com:

A dispatcher told Freeman the 911 caller said “somebody jumped a fence and tried to chase a neighbor.” The dispatcher described the suspect as “a black male, tall, thin, wearing jeans, boxers.” The suspect was running after a neighbor toward a gate and then stopped, the dispatcher said.

She told Freeman there were no weapons reported to be involved.

The officer arrived at the scene at about 10 a.m. and did not locate anyone, police said. He stayed there to look for the suspect and found him at about 10:30 a.m., police said.

Freeman told police that Joseph did not listen to his commands and charged at him before the shooting. A dashboard camera recorded audio, but not video, of the incident. It has not yet been made public.

The shooting remains under investigation and Freeman, a 10-year veteran who is also black, has been placed on administrative leave.
