Obama at Scalia’s Repose: Photos of the President’s Visit

President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama paid their respects to Scalia while he was lying in repose at the Great Hall of the Supreme Court on Friday. Obama's visit was highly controversial, since he paid his respects during the ceremony in lieu of attending Scalia's funeral on Saturday. Vice President Joe Biden and his wife Jill will attend the funeral in Obama's place. Critics have been blasting Obama for his decision not to attend the funeral. Meanwhile, others kept a very close eye on Obama's actions at the repose ceremony, with his every move coming under intense scrutiny.

The Daily Caller reported that the Obamas spent less than two minutes total at the ceremony where Scalia was honored while lying in repose. They spent 35 seconds in front of the casket and then about 67 seconds in front of his portrait, according to reports from media who apparently timed their visit. A White House pool report also stated that Obama spent about 15 minutes in another room meeting with others. It's unclear, however, if the Obamas' visit was shorter than how much time most people spend when paying their respects to a Justice who is lying in repose.
