A Brooklyn man is being hunted by the NYPD after four people were found stabbed inside of a Ramada Inn in Staten Island. Authorities say that 23-year-old Michael Sykes burst into Rebecca Cutler's hotel room at around 10 a.m. on February 10. According to detectives, he then stabbed Cutler to death and attacked her daughters Miracle, 2, Ziana, 1 and Maliyah, 5 months. Of the three, Maliyah was also Sykes' daughter. She and her sister, Miracle, succumbed to their wounds in hospital while Ziana continues to fight for her life.
On his Facebook page, Sykes, who goes by Michael Dakid Sykes on the site, celebrated the birth of his daughter, Maliyah, on September 22. Since 2013, he's worked at a Duane Reade store. The New York Daily News reports that he lives in Brooklyn's notorious Howard Houses in the neighborhood of Brownsville. The newspaper adds that he has no previous criminal convictions.
According to a Facebook page, Sykes and Cutler got married on July 12, 2015. She was a native of Richmond, Virginia, but was living in New York City at the time of her death. Speaking to the Daily News, another woman who lived at the hotel, Shaquia Williams, said, "[Cutler] was a good mom. She was always with her kids. It’s sad, it’s tragic, she was cool people. We hung out, I watched the kids for her a few times. She didn’t deserve it."
