Police in Delray Beach, Florida, say that 12 people have been injured after an explosion during a pep rally at Atlantic High School.

WPBF reports that that incident happened on March 17. The station says that a local hospital is dealing with patients who suffered burn-related injuries. WPBF’s Whitney Burbank reports that three of the victims are female students.

CBS 12 reporter Suzanne Boyd reports that the source of the explosion was a fire breather who was performing at the school. A student told CBS 12’s Chuck Weber that most of the kids in the gym thought the explosion was part of the show.

The West Palm Beach post reports that the breather had been hired to slam dunk a basketball over a fire. While performing the act, he caught fire. One parent, Heather Cyr, told the Post that her son sent her a video of the incident.
