While nothing is official, Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton appear poised to represent their respective parties in the presidential election. Trump is the only active member running in the Republican party, while Clinton is looking to hold off Bernie Sanders on the Democratic side.

If the two candidates are to face off in a general election, it appears it will be a close race. In previous months, Clinton had a sizable lead over Trump in matchup polls. In recent weeks, Trump gained ground on Clinton and had a slight lead in RealClear Politics poll average.

Clinton now has an average lead of two percentage points. Neither candidate can be named the nominee until each party’s July convention.
