Riots erupted again Wednesday evening in Charlotte, North Carolina. In the video above, a man is seen after being shot at the scene. He was pronounced dead Thursday, WCNC reported.

The violent protests formed after Keith Lamont Scott, a black man, was reportedly shot dead by police in Charlotte on September 20.

According to the Charlotte Observer, the shooting occurred in the parking lot of the Village at College Downs apartment complex on Old Concord Road just before 4 p.m.

Officers were attempting to serve an arrest warrant, but the man who was shot was not the person they were attempting to take into custody.

Police told the newspaper Scott was armed and a gun was recovered at the scene by detectives. However, the police chief said he could not be sure by a video he observed if Scott was indeed pointing a gun. You can watch his speech at a news conference below:

A Facebook live video was posted after the shooting by Scott’s daughter, Lyric Scott. She said he did not have a gun and was merely reading a book when he was confronted by police and shot.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Chief Kerr Putney said he wants to dispel rumors and get the facts out to the public as soon as possible, the Charlotte Observer reported.

“People are watching how we respond, how we react,” Putney said. “I’m optimistic that the results of our actions will be positive …but it’s time for the voices of the majority to stand up and be heard. It’s time to change the narrative, because I can tell you from the facts that the stories will be different as to how it’s been portrayed so far, especially through social media.”

Putney confirmed there was no book at the scene, and said a gun was indeed found.
