A terminal was locked down at LaGuardia airport in New York City because of an unattended vehicle.

One report said a man had parked a vehicle at Terminal B and then run away from it. That account was not verified, though. One man at the airport told NJ.com the vehicle was left with its doors open.

CBS Local said, “Port Authority of New York and New Jersey police confirmed they were investigating an unattended vehicle, but could not provide further information.”

One person said the vehicle was in this photo, although that is not confirmed:

People posted videos and photos on social media that showed a heavy military presence at the airport and people waiting to get off airplanes or stuck in snarled traffic. One man said people were being shepherded into the food court:

People described a lack of direction and confusion.

Photos showed a strong military presence at the airport.

Some people said that LaGuardia was “closed.” PIX 11 New York said Terminal B was closed as police “investigate unattended vehicle”:

People tweeted that they were stuck on airplanes.

One man described the scene at LaGuardia as “controlled chaos.”

The city has been on edge since the explosion of a homemade IED in the Chelsea neighborhood. Since that time, there have been other scares – such as a pressure cooker under an expressway and a suitcase in Times Square – that did not pan out to be dangerous.
