Lyric Scott is the daughter of the black man, Keith Lamont Scott, who was shot to death by police on September 20 in Charlotte, North Carolina. The woman said her father was only reading a book when he was shot, and she put a live video on Facebook following the shooting.

The officer who shot Scott was identified Tuesday night as Officer Brentley Vinson, WJZY-TV reported.

Officers were reportedly at the scene to serve a warrant to someone other than Scott, according to the Charlotte Observer.

Here’s what you need to know:

43-year-old Keith Lamont Scott, the father of Lyric, was fatally shot by police Tuesday afternoon at an apartment complex in Charlotte, North Carolina.

“The police just shot my daddy four times for being black,” Lyric said on Facebook live.

Officers were attempting to serve an arrest warrant, but Scott was not the person they were attempting to take into custody. Police told the Charlotte Observer that Scott was armed and a gun was recovered at the scene by detectives.

The shooting happened in the 9600 block of Old Concord Road at 3:54 p.m., the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said in a press release.

“Officers observed a subject inside a vehicle in the apartment complex,” police said in the press release. “The subject exited the vehicle armed with a firearm. Officers observed the subject get back into the vehicle at which time they began to approach the subject.”

“The subject got back out of the vehicle armed with a firearm and posed an imminent deadly threat to officers who subsequently fired their weapon striking the subject,” police said.

However, the police chief said he could not be sure by a video he observed if Scott was indeed pointing a gun. You can watch his speech at a news conference below:

A cell phone video filmed by Rakeyia Scott, wife of the slain Keith Lamont Scott, does not show the shooting of her husband but shows the moments leading up to it. Gunfire is heard on camera:

According to police, officers “immediately requested” a medic and “began performing CPR.”

Scott was taken to Carolinas Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

“Detectives recovered the firearm the subject was holding at the time of the shooting at the scene,” police said. “Detectives are currently interviewing witnesses who witnessed the accident.”

2. She Went on Facebook Live After the Shooting & Said Her Father Had No Gun

Lyric used Facebook Live to express herself after her father was shot. Her voice is full of anguish and she can be heard yelling profanity at police for shooting her dad.

Lyric can also be heard stating Scott was reading a book and had no gun. “My daddy had no m****in gun,” she said. “They shot him four times and tasered him.”

In the video she told the police to quit following her, and threatened to “give them a reason” to follow her.

Lyric also said her father “was definitely disabled.” She insisted the only reason her father was shot was because he’s black.

The video had more than 500,000 views by Tuesday evening.

3. The Officer Who Shot Her Dad Is Also Black

Brentley Vinson was identified as the Charlotte police officer who fired the fatal shot that killed Scott.

According to The Charlotte Observer, police said in a statement that they had gone to a parking complex to serve a warrant.

Once there, they “approached the man after he got back into the vehicle. The man got out again armed with a firearm and posed an imminent deadly threat to the officers, who subsequently fired their weapon striking the subject,” police said in a statement, according to the newspaper.

Scott’s brother told reporters that the officer who shot Scott was undercover and was in plainclothes, not a uniform. Police have not confirmed or denied that detail.

Vinson, 26, was placed on paid administrative leave, per department policy, according to a police press release. He has been with the police department since 2014.

The shooting is being investigated by the department’s homicide unit, not an outside agency.

“As is standard procedure with any officer involved shooting, the Internal Affairs Bureau will conduct a separate, but parallel, investigation to determine whether CMPD policies and procedures were adhered to during the course of the incident,” police said.

Authorities have not said if the shooting was captured on dashboard or body cameras. No eyewitness video of the shooting had emerged as of Tuesday night.

4. She Said F**k the Police at a Protest

Dozens of people attended a protest to demand justice not only for Scott, but for others they believed have been wrongfully killed in police-involved shootings.

“They shot my daddy, that’s what happened, they shot my daddy,” Lyric said in the video above at a protest. “F**k the police,” she continually said.

People can be heard in the background giving Lyric advice and telling her to “document everything.”

Officers at the scene were wearing body armor during the standoff with community members, according to photos and videos from the scene, which you can watch here.

The police department posted to Twitter:

Civil Emergency Unit deployed to safely remove our officers from old concord. … Demonstrators surrounded our officers who were attempting to leave scene. A number of agitators have joined demonstrators.

The Charlotte Observer reported that 12 officers were hurt during the protest.

The newspaper reported at least one police vehicle being vandalized, and said an officer was hit in the head by a rock.

Tear gas was deployed to try and disperse the crowd.
