Democratic Party Bus Dumps Raw Sewage on Street: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know

A businessman in Georgia snapped photos of a Democratic National Committee campaign bus dumping raw sewage onto a Georgia street.

Hillary Clinton opponents immediately jumped on the story, spreading it around Twitter and joking about the symbolism (see above). The bus has a photo of Hillary Clinton and her running mate Tim Kaine displayed on the side.

The Democratic National Committee has issued an apology for the October 18 incident.

Here’s what you need to know:

1. A Hazmat Team Was Called in to Deal With the Sewage Mess

According to WXIA-TV, haz-mat teams in Lawrenceville, Georgia were called out to deal with the situation after a local businessman contacted police.

CBS 46 reported, “Gwinnett County Storm Water is now involved in the investigation as well as the State Environment Protection Department.”

“It’s just wrong,” said witness Mike Robins. “I don’t care who you are, if you’re Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump. I don’t care who you are. You don’t dump human waste down a storm drain.”

2. Police Are Investigating Whether the Sewage Was Illegally Dumped

WSB-TV said police were investigating whether the sewage was illegally dumped. The Hill says that the Lawrenceville businessman snapped photos of the bus dumping sewage, and they show “liquid seeping out from underneath the Clinton bus.”

WXIA says the man who took the photos was an employee at a local auto parts store.

“Officers were called to the O’Reilly Auto Parts at 525 Grayson Highway after receiving reports that an RV was illegally dumping its sewage into the storm drain,” said WXIA-TV.

The television station said the employee told police “he watched the RV stop in the turn lane of Grayson Highway in front of the store and spill raw sewage onto the roadway and into the storm drain.”

3. Bits of Toilet Paper Were Strewn Around & People Reported a ‘Foul Smell’

WSB-TV said the responding officer wrote in a police report “that there was a large amount of drying toilet paper and a foul smell where the RV had parked.”

CBS 46 reported, “Police say when they arrived on the scene, toilet paper was scattered everywhere and there was a foul smell.”

4. The Bus Was Affiliated With the Democratic National Committee & Has Hillary Clinton’s Face on the Side, Reports Say

CBS 46 said the bus was “affiliated with the Democratic National Committee.”

However, The Hill defined the RV as a Hillary Clinton campaign bus. The bus had the “Forward Together” slogan on the side, photos show.

The DNC is now saying it was a Democratic National Committee bus, not a Hillary Clinton campaign bus. However, the bus has Hillary’s photo on the side.

5. The Democratic National Committee Has Apologized for the Incident & Is Working With the DNR

The Democratic National Committee provided CBS 46 with this statement:

This was an honest mistake and we apologize to the Lawrenceville community for any harm we may have caused. We were unaware of any possible violations and have already taken corrective action with the charter bus company to prevent this from happening again. Furthermore, the DNC will work with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, as well as local and state officials to determine the best course of corrective action.

The Hill said ” the vehicle promoting the Democratic presidential nominee was between campaign stops.”
