Gloria Allred will hold a press conference on October 14 with another woman coming forward to accuse Donald Trump of sexual harassment. This is not the first time Allred and Trump have butted heads. In 2012, they fought over Jenna Talackova, Canada’s first transgender Miss Universe Canada contestant.

Miss Universe Canada initially refused to let Talackova compete, but after Allred held a press conference, organizers relented. The entire situation also highlights Trump’s vulgar language, including a moment where he said Allred would be “very, very impressed” with his penis.

Here’s a look at Talackova and the situation involving Trump.

1. The Miss Universe Pageant Rule That Barred Talackova From Competing Said a Contestant Had to be ‘Naturally Born’ a Woman

The case of Talackova, now 27, started getting attention in March 2014, when The Star reported that the Vancouver native would not be allowed to compete in the Miss Universe Canada competition. Talackova, who was born male, was disqualified because of the rule that every contestant must be “naturally born female.”

Denis Davila, national director of Miss Universe Canada, told The Star that Talackova wrote on her application form that she was born female. She admitted that she lied when Davila talked to her and she was disqualified on March 13, 2012.

“She feels like a real girl and she is a real girl. She didn’t expect people to question it,” Davila said. “She was hoping we could put her back in the competition, but the rules are very clear and there’s no way we can go back on it.”

Talackova previously competed in the 2010 Miss International Queen Transgender/Transexual Competition.

2. Trump’s Team Insisted That There Was No ‘Capitulating’ by Letting Talackova Compete

On April 3, 2012, Allred and Talackova held a press conference, calling on then-Miss Universe owner Trump to allow Talackova to compete. Allred had Talackova show all over Canadian government-issued documents to prove that she is listed as a female. You can watch the entire press conference above.

Hours after the press conference, Michael Cohen, then-special counsel to Trump, told the National Post that Talackova will be allowed to compete. “As long as she meets the standards of legal gender recognition requirements of Canada, which we understand that she does, Jenna Talackova is free to compete in the 2012 Miss Universe Canada pageant,” he said.

However, Trump would not admit defeat. “Nobody is capitulating. Rather the Miss Universe organization is respecting the laws of Canada,” Cohen said, adding that Talackova, “like all the other contestants, is wished the best of luck by Mr. Trump.”

Cohen also assured that, if Talackova won Miss Universe Canada, she would have been allowed to compete in the main Miss Universe pageant.

3. After the Press Conference, Trump Told TMZ Allred Would be ‘Very, Very Impressed With’ His Penis

After the press conference, Trump called into TMZ Live. Oddly, before he was asked any questions, Trump blurted out, “I think Gloria would be very, very impressed with me, I really do,” referring to his penis. “I think she’d have a whole brand new image of Donald Trump.”

Trump also said that he might have changed his mind about letting Talackova compete if he knew Allred was playing a role in the case. He also won’t apologize for the situation.

“If she competes that’s wonderful and if she doesn’t want to compete because maybe she thinks she can’t win, that’s fine also. I couldn’t care less,” Trump said of Talackova.

Trump also did an interview with Barbara Walters on the Talackova situation. In that interview, Trump said that future transgender contestants can compete in Miss Universe pageants. However, Trump suggested that there was some conspiracy theory involved in the case. He showed a card to Walters that had “JENNATAL” spelled out. When he saw this card, he thought to himself, “Hmm, could there be an ulterior motive?”

In the same report, Allred told Walters that Talackova’s mother has explained why she took the name she uses. “And with all due respect to Mr. Trump, he really needs to stop being focused on genitals, his or anyone else’s,” Allred said.

4. Trump Questioned Allred’s Gender in a Tweet Days After the Press Conference

Trump kept the controversy going for days after press conference. In a tweet on April 9, 2012, Trump insisted that Telackova’s name change was part of a conspiracy.

Jenna changed her name from Walter to Page and then to Jenna so that now her name is Jenna Talackova. If you take the first 3 letters from Talackova and add them to Jenna, it’s Jennatal (genital?). Is there something a little strange going on here? In any event, I have given the okay for her to compete in the Miss Universe Canada Pageant. It will be a wild evening with ticket sales through the roof–lots of interest!

In a tweet on April 9, 2012, Trump claimed that Talackova was given the OK to compete two days before Allred’s press conference. He then wondered if Allred was a man or a woman.

I made my decision to allow Jenna Talackova to participate in Miss Universe Canada two days before Gloria Allred got involved. I hope Jenna is not paying Gloria a fee other than all the free publicity that Gloria is getting for no reason. Gloria actually hurts Jenna—- I do nothing for Gloria, who in my opinion is a third rate lawyer. Is Gloria a man or a woman????—- few men would know the answer to that one.

“I had strong things to say about [his remarks] in my news conference. That was his reaction,” Allred told the Daily Beast in October 2016. “Maybe he wasn’t used to being confronted by a strong woman. I was not a politician tiptoeing around what I had to say. My guess is that upset him to be confronted in that way.”

5. Talackova Had a Reality Show Based on Her Life & Appeared in a PETA Ad

Although Talackova didn’t end up winning Miss Universe Canada, she still continued her career as a model. Her website hasn’t been updated since 2012, she continues to use Twitter and Instagram.

In January 2014, she appeared in Elle Canada and was on a PETA advertisement as well. She also had her own reality show, Brave New Girls, which aired on E! Canada in 2014.
