Donald Trump is looking to save his campaign after The Washington Post released Access Hollywood footage of Trump making disparaging comments about women to host Billy Bush. In a poll conducted by NBC News/Wall Street Journal after the release of the tape, Hillary Clinton’s lead on Trump has reached double-digits.
Clinton leads Trump by 14 percentage points in one of the first major polls conducted after the release of the tape. Trump is hoping the second debate can help stop the bleeding, but his performance is receiving mixed reviews.
When asked about the comments, Trump continued to refer to it as “locker room talk” before attempting to change the conversation to ISIS. Later in the debate, he successfully landed blows to Clinton about her email scandal, but may have taken the attacks too far by threatening to have her imprisoned if he was elected president.
While the Trump campaign hopes the polling numbers released later this week are more favorable, the early results are not good for Trump. The FiveThirtyEight polls-plus prediction model has moved Trump’s chances of winning in November down to 20.2 percentage points. Prior to the initial debate, he had made up considerable ground on Clinton.
Here’s a look at the latest presidential polls.
