The Islamic State Yaqeen Media Foundation has purportedly released an English “Mosul Battle Results” for October 18, 2016. The infographic is described as “a summary of what the kuffar and murtadeen have tasted and was documented on the outskirts of Mosul.”
“Kuffar” is a pejorative, Arabic word for a non-Muslim.
“Murtadeen” is an Islamic term for apostates. The singular form is “murtad.” ISIS uses it to refer to those that don’t align with its extremist, Sunni interpretation of Islam.
Last week, the American coalition, consisting of the Iraqi Army, the Kurdish Peshmerga, Shia militias, Christian militias, and the Turkish Nineveh Guard, descended upon Mosul to free it from the Islamic State. The official operation began on October 17 when it was announced by Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi.
A live stream has been set-up by the Peshmerga for Kurdistan 24 News. Viewers can watch the ongoing operation here.
ISIS has also been trying to take control of the narrative of the war and has allegedly published statistics about the battle for October 18. Read it below.
