On Monday, Kim Kardashian was the victim of an armed robbery at her luxury Paris hotel. Kardashian’s bodyguard, Pascal Duvier, is usually by her side when she travels, but was not in the hotel room at the time. In November, it was reported that Kardashian and her husband, Kanye West, let Duvier go and he is no longer working for them.
TMZ reports that at least five gunmen stole a $4.5 million ring from Kardashian, as well as a jewelry box that contained at least $10 million worth of jewelry. Two of them reportedly tied Kardashian up and she begged them to not kill her. Just before the news broke, Kanye West abruptly ended a Queens, New York show, announcing that he had a “family emergency.” Kardashian left Paris after speaking with police.
Although it was first reported that the robbery took place at her hotel, Page Six is now reporting that it actually happened at a home Kanye West has owned in Paris for years. “It’s their home,” a source told the site.
Here’s a look at Duvier and where he was during the robbery. Duvier has also worked as a bodyguard for Katy Perry and Kardashian’s husband, Kanye West. He is listed at 6 feet, 4 inches tall and 264 pounds.
1. Duvier Was Reportedly With Kendall Jenner & Kourtney Kardashian at the Time of the Robbery
Duvier was not with Kardashian at the time of the robbery in Paris. The Daily Mail reports that he was with her sisters, Kourtney Kardashian and Kendall Jenner, at the Paris nightclub Arc. When they heard about the heist, they rushed back to the hotel.
The Daily Mail published pictures of Duvier talking with airport staff as the Kardashian family boarded a private plane to head back to the U.S.
Since Duvier was not where he needed to be, some on Twitter joked about his absence.
An insider told Us Weekly that Kardashian doesn’t blame Duvier for the robbery. “Kim is not blaming Pascal. She felt completely safe at the Paris apartment and doesn’t believe this is his fault in any way,” the insider said.
2. Just Days Before the Robbery, Kardashian Praised Duvier for Stopping Vitalii Sediuk From Tackling Her
On September 28, notorious prankster Vitalii Sediuk tried to kiss Kardashian’s backside in Paris, but Duvier made sure it didn’t happen. Moments later, Kardashian praised Duvier on Twitter.
On October 2 though, just before the robbery, she joked about how Duvier always appears behind her in paparazzi photos.
On November 3, Entertainment Tonight reported that Duvier is no longer working for Kardahian and West.
“Pascal, along with a couple other security members of their team, were recently let go by Kim and Kanye,” one source told ET. “It’s a pretty tough situation overall and they love Pascal, but they couldn’t take any more chances.”
A few weeks after the Paris robbery, it was reported that Kardahsian hired Aaron Cohen as her new bodyguard.
3. Duvier Served in the German Army & Practices Judo
In a March 2016 interview with Highsnobiety.com, Duvier revealed that he served in the German army.
“I started in the German army. At the time it was mandatory to enlist in Germany and I thought it was a good idea to do something for your country,” he said.
He also explained that his father was a boxer and his mother suggested he practice judo. “A friend of my parents suggested it since my mother was against me being a boxer like my father. I went to a class to see it, and I liked it right away. That was in 1979,” he said.
4. Duvier Eats 18 Eggs a Day & Says His Diet ‘Consists of Eating Everything’
In 2014, when Duvier visited Australia with Kardashian, The Daily Mail reported that he eats 18 eggs a day. It’s not surprising, since he told Highsnobiety.com that his diet “consists of eating everything.”
“Lots of fish and meat, fruit, pasta, rice, bread, and of course cake,” he explained. “I work out a lot and I need fuel to feed my body. Working out is essential for me, I love working out every day, and the most important thing is to switch up my routine.”
When he was in Japan this summer, he complained about portions on Instagram. “I love Japanese catering. Finally a place where I can get the type of portions I like. Everything here in Japan is mini sized,” he wrote.
5. Duvier Takes His Job Seriously & Doesn’t Become Friends With Clients
Duvier is active on social media and will frequently answer questions on Twitter. When someone asked him if he ever became friends with his clients, he said he wrote that he’s not being hired to be a friend. “I’m being hired to do a job, not to be friend,” he wrote.
However, a look at his Instagram page reveals the benefits of having famous clients. In between pictures of his world travels, he also shares photos of his daughters and videos of himself working out.
Duvier’s LinkedIn page lists him as the CEO of ProtectSecurity. He’s worked at awards shows, including the Grammys and MTV Europe Awards and has worked on international tours for the Black Eyed Peas, Justin Timberlake, The Police, Christina Aguilera and David Guetta. He’s worked with Kanye West since 2012.
