Former Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz posted a tweet on Sunday linking to an article in a conservative online publication saying that if Hillary Clinton wins the 2016 presidential election, “we will have mandated sex change operations.”

But the tweet was later deleted from Cruz’s Twitter feed, and a spokesperson for the Texas Senator, who after weeks of holding out endorsed Donald Trump for president on September 23, denied that Cruz had actually posted the tweet.

The tweet had caused an uproar in conservative circles not because of the linked article’s suggestion that Clinton will impose mandatory sex change operations on the American public, but instead due to the fact that the article essentially declared the 2016 presidential race over, predicting a Clinton victory over Trump.

Cruz’s own tweet stated, “why conservatives will need a new party if/when Hillary wins.”

The article seemingly endorsed by Cruz was written by Daniel Horowitz and appeared in the online publication Conservative Review. The article can be accessed at this link.

“Whether you love, hate, or tolerate the current GOP nominee, the reality is that unless something cathartic occurs before the critical mass of early voting begins, Hillary Clinton will be elected president on November 8,” Horowitz wrote in his article. “Don’t shoot the messenger.”

By tweeting a direct link to the article and quoting its title, Cruz appeared to endorse the prediction that Clinton already has the election wrapped up, but his organization quickly disavowed that position — and the tweet itself.

“That was not tweeted by Sen. Cruz or an authorized handler of the account knowingly. It has been pulled down and we have reached out to Twitter to determine the source,” Cruz spokesperson Catherine Frazier told The New York Post.

But while the prediction that Clinton will defeat Trump may not seem especially far-fetched given the Democrat’s increasingly wide lead in polling results — a Monmouth University poll on Monday put Clinton ahead of Trump by 12 points with just 22 days remaining until the November 8 election — other passages from the article were more bizarre.

“2020 will be a repeat of 2012 in which the candidate with the most name recognition and promoted by Fox News will be the GOP nominee,” Horowitz wrote. “By that point, we will have mandated sex change operations. Heck, our own military during a time of war and internal morale crisis has already published a handbook on sex changes. We simply don’t have the time to continue down this failed path.”

As of Monday afternoon, there had been no report of Twitter’s findings as to whether or not an unauthorized person accessed Cruz’s account, as hi spokesperson appeared to claim.
