Islamic State terrorist media channels have ramped up their coverage of the battle for Mosul, Iraq against American coalition forces. In this video, they allege to have sent PKK fighters fleeing.
The summary released along with the video reads: “Fleeing Peshmerga Convoy after a Martyrdom Operation Southeast of #Mosul.”
A “martyrdom operation” is ISIS jargon for a suicide bomber attack.
The video is stated to have been filmed on today, October 19. In the video, Islamic State militants can be seen shooting at what is stated to be Peshmerga fighters. Civilian-looking cars, stated to be a vehicle-borne improvised explosive devices (VBIEDs), or car bombs, are also seen.
Last week, the American coalition, consisting of the Iraqi Army, the Kurdish Peshmerga, Shia militias, Christian militias, and the Turkish Nineveh Guard, descended upon Mosul to free it from the Islamic State. The official operation began on October 17 when it was announced by Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi.
A live stream has been set-up by the Peshmerga for Kurdistan 24 News. Viewers can watch the ongoing operation here.
