Donald Trump’s wife, Melania Trump, will be speaking this afternoon for the first time since the Republican National Convention.
Melania Trump’s event will be taking place at the Main Line Sports Center in Berwyn, Pennsylvania beginning at 2:00 p.m Eastern Time. The speech can be viewed live in the embedded YouTube player.
Donald Trump himself will not be attendance for the event. Rather, he said on Twitter that he will be watching his wife’s speech from North Carolina, where he is holding two rallies today, first in Concord and then in Selma.
The last time Melania Trump gave a major speech was at the Republican National Convention, and this caused a major headache for the campaign, as it was soon discovered that sections of the speech were plagiarized from Michelle Obama. The Trump campaign said at the time that this was the fault of a speechwriter and of miscommunication between that speechwriter and Melania Trump.
Although she did not write the speech herself and therefore was not at fault, Melania Trump was immediately ridiculed on late night comedy shows, and Donald Trump even poked fun at the incident at the recent Al Smith Dinner, where politicians deliver comedic monologues about the state of the race.
“Michelle Obama gives a speech and everyone loves it. It’s fantastic,” Trump said at the event. “They think she’s absolutely great. My wife Melania gives the exact same speech and people get on her case.”
After this joke, Trump asked Melania to stand and said that the incident wasn’t her fault.
During an ABC News interview last week, Donald Trump said that Melania would be making “two or three” speeches prior to Election Day, although there are only five days remaining and this is the only Melania Trump event that’s currently scheduled.
