WATCH: President Obama Meets With President-Elect Donald Trump

President Barack Obama met with President-Elect Donald Trump at the White House on Thursday, the first step in the transition of power between the old government and the new.

Trump and Obama spoke in the Oval Office and for about an hour about domestic and foreign policy. This was the first time the two men have actually met, although they have been in the same room together at events like the White House Correspondents Dinner.

“My number one priority in the coming two months is to try to facilitate a transition that ensures our president elect is successful,” Obama said.

Obama also said he was encouraged by Trump’s interest in working with the Obama team. Trump said that he looks forward to working with President Obama more in the future, calling him “a very good man” after questioning his place of birth for five years straight.

Coverage of Trump’s visit to the White House has been limited because Trump did not bring journalists onto his motorcade or his plane. This breaks with tradition, as members of the press typically follow the president-elect to document historic moments like these.

At the same time, Melania Trump met with the first lady of the United States, Michelle Obama.
