PHOTOS: ISIS Amputates Hand of Alleged Thief in Mosul
In a new photo report purportedly released by the Islamic State, ISIS religious police known as "hisbah" publicly cut off the hand of a man accused of stealing in Mosul, Iraq. The photo report was released on ISIS terrorist channels on January 5. Hand amputation within the Islamic State is in accordance with sharia law, which falls under the practice of "hadd." "Hadd" means “boundaries” in Arabic. Plural of hadd is "hudud." Most hudud crimes fall under the category of “sex crimes,” such as adultery, fornication, accusing someone of illicit sex, etc. Punishments for these crimes are all prescribed under sharia law.
