PHOTOS: ISIS Religious Police Publicly Flog Man & Humiliate 2 Men in a Cage
In a new photo report purportedly released by the Islamic State, ISIS religious police in Damascus, "Wilayat Dimashq," Syria publicly flagellate a man accused of either cursing, alcohol house, or interacting with females. The photo report was released on ISIS terrorist channels on January 5. An accompanying summary of the report reads: "Aspects of the Work of Hisbah Office in #Hajar_Aswad Area." Al-Hajar al-Aswad is the site of the Yarmouk Palestinian refugee camp. Damascus has been a hotbed of ISIS activity, with the unofficial Palestinian refugee camp of the Yarmouk neighborhood being a major flashpoint, according to CBS. According to The Wall Street Journal, the constant violence has taken its toll on the civilian population and deaths from starvation have been reported in at least one suburb. Public flagellation within the Islamic State is in accordance with sharia law, which falls under the practice of "hadd." "Hadd" means “boundaries” in Arabic. Plural of hadd is "hudud." Most hudud crimes fall under the category of “sex crimes,” such as adultery, fornication, accusing someone of illicit sex, etc. Punishments for these crimes are all prescribed under sharia law.
