In the 45-second teaser, footage of ongoing battles are shown. Right before the end, ISIS militants are shown dragging the corpse of an enemy combatant behind them before the Islamic State black flag is shown waving,.
In October, the American coalition, consisting of the Iraqi Army, the Kurdish Peshmerga, Shia militias, Christian militias, and the Turkish Nineveh Guard, descended upon Mosul to free it from the Islamic State. The official operation began on October 17 when it was announced by Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi, reports the BBC.
The past 2-weeks had seen a lull in fighting in east Mosul, but The Guardian now reports that Iraqi troops backed by US-led airstrikes have again begun their push into Mosul. The AP reports, “Elite special forces pushed into the Karama and Quds neighborhoods, while army troops and federal police advanced into the nearby Intisar, Salam and Sumor neighborhoods.”
According to the BBC, the latest push “is the second phase of an offensive on the last major stronghold of [ISIS] in Iraq.” However, as pressure is put on ISIS in Mosul, their terrorist cells elsewhere have been acting up. Reuters reports that as Iraqi forces pushed further into Mosul, three bombs killed 29 people in Baghdad on Saturday.
