Is Club Penguin Shutting Down? Yes and No

Good news and bad news, Club Penguin fans.

In a Jan. 30 blog post, the team behind the virtual world for kids said the current Club Penguin game will be discontinued on desktop and mobile devices on March 29, 2017. But fret not: a new Club Penguin game exclusively for iOS and Android mobile devices is on the way. So really, the game is just going away on the desktop.

“With this next chapter, we will be launching an amazing new product, Club Penguin Island, that offers a uniquely penguin experience, with new features and gameplay, making it more fun than ever,” the team wrote. Check out the Club Penguin Island trailer above.

If you’re interested in the upcoming mobile game, you can pre-register for it here and get “exclusive in-game rewards” when you log in for the first time. You can pre-register until Feb. 16, 2017.

The original Club Penguin game, created by New Horizon Interactive and published by Disney Interactive, has been around since 2005. It’s no longer available for purchase but current paid members will have unlimited access until either their membership expires or March 29, whichever comes first.

“We are deeply grateful for your time and enthusiasm since the beginning, and we’d like to thank each and every one of you in the Club Penguin community – we can’t wait for you to see what’s coming next,” the Club Penguin team wrote in a blog post.
