A male model from Australia is making news headlines around the globe after he and a skateboarding friend played heroes when seven teenagers fell through the ice in Central Park.

Ethan Turnbull and his friend, Bennett Jonas, also a model, put their lives on the line to save the teens from a frozen pond, reported The Sydney Morning Herald.

But it’s Turnbull’s Instagram account that is getting almost as much attention as his heroism.

The Sydney newspaper reports that Turnbull, 24, and his 23-year-old friend were skateboarding in the park when they saw the youths fall through the ice and then start panicking.

Jonas later said, according to the Morning Herald, “I went into the water, he followed me and the first two kids, jumped on top of me and I had to get them off.”


2. The Scene Was Captured on Dramatic Video

Although news attention initially focused on the tragedy, it soon started to shift to the identity of the two rescuers once they became known.

According to The New York Post, officials are calling the two models “good Samaritans.”

Jonas is also a male model, who is from California, according to Australian news media.


5. The Teens Were ‘Horsing Around’ Before Falling Through the Ice

According to Australian news, the teenagers fell through the ice because they were “horsing around” right before the incident.

The New York Post reported that the teens were taking selfies when they fell into the pond. The boys are ages 15 to 16, and the pond was “off limits,” the Post reported.

The boys were treated for hypothermia but are expected to be OK, the New York newspaper reported.
