WATCH: Donald Trump Responds to Paris ‘Terrorist Attack’

President Donald Trump responded to a targeted shooting on the Champs-Elysees in Paris that left one police officer dead and two others wounded by saying that it “just never ends.”

Trump was speaking at a joint press conference with Italian Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni after their meeting Thursday at the White House. The press conference was scheduled to begin just after news of the shooting broke. The president was asked about the incident, and did not bring it up on his own.

“Well first of all our condolences from our country to the people of France, again. It’s happening it seems. I just saw it as I was walking in, so it’s a terrible thing,” Trump said in response to the reporter’s question. “It’s a very, very terrible thing that’s going on in the world today. But it looks like another terrorist attack and what can you say, it just never ends. We have to be strong and we have to be vigilant, and I’ve been saying it for a long time.

It is not clear if Trump had intelligence on the shooting when he called it a terrorist attack, or if it was speculation. French authorities have said they are investigating it as a possible terror incident, but have not confirmed a motive.
